Kreatibo in "Dalagas & Tomboys: A Family Affair"

Dalagas & Tomboys: A Family Affair marks the return of the queer Pinay artist collective, Kreatibo*, to the Bindlestiff stage. Presenting original works that delve even deeper into themes of gender, sexuality and Filipino identity as experienced by lesbian, bisexual and transgender Pinays, Kreatibo boldly innovates traditional Philippine artistic forms, embraces
modern day pop culture and utilizes comedy, drama and satire to bring new meaning to the concept of family. A dyke couple going to couples therapy for the first time only to be confronted by an elder Pilipina therapist who reminds them of their mothers; a surreal conversation between a daughter and her talking balikbayan box; the consequences of bringing your same sex partner to a salsa club; a fantastical daydream involving ballroom dancing and the quintessential family party; and a queer wedding . . . guerilla style.
These, and other stories will engage audiences in a provocative exploration of both intimate and social issues.
Directed by Michelle Bautista

* Kreatibo is a queer Pinay artist collective born out of the need to take our stories out of the margins and into the spotlight. Using music, movement, words and images to tell these stories, we are the defiant fist held up in the face of violence and oppression targeting our communities. We are dedicated to the preservation and creation of our collective memory and use artistic forums as a means of cultural activism.
